End of the WorldAnd we lived another day. As usual, nothing happened. We already heard several End of the World predictions. Some of them are taken seriously and even made it to the headlines because of its sensible relation to our situation such as the recent end of the Mayan Calendar and the tribulation sparker Y2K. Some predictions are made by famous false prophets such as Nostradamus and lesser famous false prophets such as religious leaders.

These failed predictions only testify that the Bible is the ultimate authority. The Bible clearly states that no one knows when the world will end but the Father (Matthew 24:36). It makes me wonder why such a simple, straight to the point statement is hard to understand by some people. ‘Scholars’ are even trying to decode the Bible for specific prophecies without studying the Books first. What made me say this is because if they had properly studied the Bible, they would know how to do to understand it and make it appears less like a puzzle. Everything is in the Bible including its own explanations, why it’s hard to understand sometimes, how other people will not grasp it (Matthew 13:10-17), and how to ‘decode’ its messages (Psalm 119:33-40).

The Bible didn’t mention anything about the end of the world as it is. What it revealed was the signs before our Lord Jesus Christ come. But the second coming of our Lord can also be considered as the end of the world because it will be followed by great tribulation (Matthew 24:31) and the next is the new era which is the reign of our Lord (Revelation 20:4).

Although the Bible has stated that we are closing to the world’s end and the return of our Lord, our Lord Jesus Christ Himself stated that he will return like a thief in the night (2 Peter 3:10). Our Lord and other prophets have given us signs before His return. Some of them had already occurred; some of them we are currently experiencing, and some are yet to come.

Here are the signs that the Bible has given us on our Lord’s return:

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” – Matthew 24:36

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. – Matthew 21:25-26

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. – 2 Peter 3:10

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. – 2 Timothy 3:1-5

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. – Luke 17:26-29

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. – Daniel 12:4

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. – 1 Timothy 4:1-3

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-10

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. – 2 Peter 3:3-7
