Garden of EdenHosea 4:6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Last Sunday’s Bible reading is Hosea 4:6, a single verse that talks about why God’s people were destroyed and how He felt towards it. So why a Christian could be destroyed in spite the fact that He’s already a Christian and receive God’s blessings and protection. What are the reasons for Christians to be destroyed?

1. Lack of knowledge

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. – John 5:39

There is a tendency that we commit sin and more vulnerable to temptation and the devil if we lack knowledge; the knowledge of the word of God. By learning and memorizing the Bible, we could use it as our defense against the temptation of the devil and committing more mistakes.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. – 2 Timothy 3:16

And remember also that our Lord Jesus Christ used nothing but the scriptures to answer the devils temptation when He’s in the wilderness. (Matthew 4:1-11).

Lack of knowledge would make us an easy target for the devil to deceive.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17

We can gain knowledge and strengthen our faith by hearing the word of God. Our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us to search the scriptures to serve as our guide for our lives.

2. Rejected knowledge

One of the reasons why we lack knowledge is that we reject it, and God calls those who are rejecting knowledge as fools. God hates those who hate knowledge. If you reject it, time will come that God will also reject you. (Proverbs 1:22 – 31)

But you are blessed if you accept the knowledge or the word of God as the truth, not as words of men. (1 Thessalonians 2:13). There are lots of people today that reject knowledge and consider truth as dogma or imaginations of men.

People reject knowledge because we want to be our own masters. By considering ourselves as gods like Him, we reject the truth and receive the deceit of the devil.

3. Forgot the law of God

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. – James 1:22

Lots of Christians are listeners only, not doers. We must be both in order to get God’s law into our system so that God’s will will automatically manifest in our actions and not with huge effort.

We also tend to be Christians only on church and Sundays. The moment we step out of the church and return on our daily routines and unbeliever friends, we also forget what we heard and learned.

This is also the reason why we have to attend our church’s worship services as often as possible; to remind us of the word of God because we tend to forget easily. Spending most of our time in the world, it is important that we regularly be fed with the word of God.
